STEP 1 - INQUIRY
1. Initiate contact with school by calling (310) 544/1644, e-mailing, or filling out the Student Information form online. (For a hard copy, please download our application form.) It is important to establish for both the parent and school that the child's needs are sufficiently in line with the school's mission to warrant further exploration.
2. The parent arranges for an individual tour to obtain detailed knowledge of the school's program. If uncertainly persists following the tour, the parent arranges to meet individually with a admission personnel to discuss specific needs.
3. If parent believes CLU to be a fit, obtain Admissions Packet and schedule Admissions Interview. Contact Client Care Coordinator at 310-544-1644.
Gather Supplemental Materials: During this same time period, the parent arranges for copies of the following records to be sent to CLU accompanied by "Authorization to Release Information" form :
- Student's complete diagnostic, ability, and achievement records:
- Speech/language, psychological, neurological, and educational evaluations
- the last three IEPs, which include the last triennial evaluation
- If the child has been diagnosed or treated for significant physical or emotional health issues, the related medical records must be included as well.
Please Note: These records must be made available PRIOR to scheduling the Admissions Interview. Otherwise, the process will be delayed.
STEP 2 - APPLICATION
When a family decides to continue the admission process, these additional steps should be taken:
1. At the scheduled admissions interview, the parent returns the completed "Application Form" with the $150.00 non-refundable application fee to the school.
2. Parents arrange for the student's current teachers to complete the Student Information Forms. If behavior or self-management are issues for the child, parents and a current teacher will complete and submit a child behavior checklist.
STEP 3 – STAFF DETERMINATION
Student candidate is presented to staff to determine if thirty-day trial placement is appropriate.
- Family is notified of decision by Client Care Coordinator.
To begin the thirty-day trial period, the following paperwork must be complete:
- Policy/student information paperwork is reviewed with and completed by parent
- In case of teens, zero tolerance drug policy is discussed and policy acknowledgement form is signed by parent and student
- Responsibility for payment documentation completed: 30 day trial period payment made. Please note: Parent is responsible for ALL financial obligations incurred while student is at CLU.
STEP 4 – THIRTY DAY OBSERVATION GOALS
The following assessment stakes places during the child’s first 30 days:
- Learning style inventory conducted
- Interests/strengths observed
- Academics levels (reading/writing/math) assessed
- Self-esteem/socio-emotional skills observed
- Graphomotor/Keyboarding sampled
- Grouping compatibility determined
At conclusion of thirty days, a summary report is generated:
1. Family learns that school is not a good match OR
2. The following goals are set forth for student based on testing information/thirty day observation:
- Academic: (reading/writing/math)
- Behavioral/socio-emotional
- Need for assistive technology determined
